Every January, Cyprus gyms and fitness studios get their biggest wave of new members. The decision, though, is made earlier. Someone eats a second plate of kourabiedes in December, picks up their phone and searches "gym Limassol" or "pilates Nicosia". Three websites open in three tabs. The one that answers their questions fastest gets the visit. This guide covers what that website needs, and why November is the month to fix it.
Four questions, answered in one minute on a phone
A person comparing gyms wants to know four things before they will come in: where you are and when you are open, what it costs, what the place looks like, and how to start. If any one of those takes more than a scroll or a tap to find, they move to the next tab. Put the address with a map link, today's hours, a starting price and a "Book a free trial" button on the homepage, above everything else.
Show prices and what they include
Most gym sites in Cyprus still say "contact us for membership options". That line sends people straight to a competitor who prints a number. Show your monthly price, the no-contract price and the twelve-month price side by side, and say what each includes: classes, sauna, towel, guest passes. Print the joining fee if there is one, and any student, couple or corporate rates. Prices should include VAT. Then write the cancellation rule in one plain sentence, because the fear of being trapped in a contract stops more sign-ups than the price itself. We wrote about this in Should You Show Prices on Your Website?.
A timetable that is a web page, not a photo
Class timetables are usually uploaded as an image or a PDF. On a phone that means pinching and zooming to read whether Tuesday spin is at 18:00 or 19:00. Build the timetable as a real page: one list per day, class name, time, level and coach, in Greek and English. Make sure someone on your team can update it from a phone, so holiday changes and a sick instructor do not leave the site wrong. Add a visible "Christmas and New Year hours" note from mid-December.
Make the first visit easy to book
A trial is the moment a browser becomes a member. Offer one free session or a paid trial week, and let people book it online with name, phone number, the class or time they want, and one optional line about their goal. Send a confirmation at once, then a reminder the day before by SMS or Viber. A person who has booked a slot with a time and a name turns up. A person told to "just drop by" rarely does. Our guide to online booking covers the tools.
Real photos, real coaches
Stock photos of models in a gym that is not yours do more harm than good. Shoot your own floor at a normal busy hour, the changing rooms, the parking and the reception. A sixty-second walkthrough video filmed on a phone answers "what is it like" better than any paragraph. Give each coach a short profile with a real photo, qualifications, languages spoken and what they teach. People in Cyprus choose a trainer as much as a gym, and they ask friends by name.
Build the January page in November
Create one page for your January offer now, with a clear deadline and a form, and keep the same web address every year. Google needs a few weeks to index a new page, so a page published on 2 January misses the rush. Waiving the joining fee or adding a free month usually works better than a percentage discount, because it is easier to explain. Sell gift vouchers for memberships and personal training from the same page in December, as Christmas gifts for the person who keeps saying they will start. Update your Google Business Profile with holiday hours and a post about the offer, and make sure the hours there match the site.
Keep them past March
The January member who stops coming in March is the real cost. Let members book classes online, send a short message when someone has not checked in for two weeks, and run a bring-a-friend month in February with a free week for both. Ask for a Google review after the first month, while the enthusiasm is high. These are small automations, and the same thinking applies to any business that lives on repeat customers.
Your November checklist
- Prices with inclusions, joining fee and cancellation rule on one page
- Timetable as an editable web page in Greek and English
- Free trial booking form with confirmation and a day-before reminder
- Own photos, a walkthrough video and coach profiles
- A January offer page and gift vouchers live by the first week of December
