Product Pages That Sell: A Guide for Cyprus Online Shops

Most Cyprus online shops put their effort into the homepage and the checkout. The product page gets a supplier photo, a copied description and a price. Yet the product page is where the buying decision actually happens. It is also the page Google is most likely to show when someone searches for a specific item.

This guide covers what a product page needs to do its job: answer questions, remove doubt, and make the "Add to cart" button an easy click. Most of it is content work you can start this week.

What a product page has to do

A shopper landing on a product page has three questions. Is this the right thing? Can I trust this shop? What happens after I pay? Every element on the page should answer one of those.

A visitor arriving from Google has one more question: is this the page I meant to find? Put the product name, the main photo and the price at the top so they know within two seconds.

Photos: the part shoppers judge first

  • Show the product from several angles, including one at real scale, next to a hand or in use. Size confusion is one of the biggest causes of returns.
  • Use your own photos where you can. Supplier images appear on every competitor's site, and Google sees the same picture everywhere. Even simple shots on a plain background in good daylight set you apart.
  • Compress them. A gallery of 4 MB photos makes the page crawl on mobile data, which is how most Cyprus shoppers browse.

We wrote a separate guide on making website photos work for SEO. The same rules apply here, especially descriptive file names and alt text.

Descriptions: write for the buyer, not the supplier

The manufacturer's text lists specifications. Your description should explain what those specifications mean for the buyer. "Stainless steel, 316 grade" becomes "will not rust in sea air, so it is fine on a balcony in Limassol". Lead with the benefit, then give the specifications in a table below for people who want them.

Copied descriptions also hurt in search. If fifty shops use the same paragraph, Google has no reason to rank yours. A short, original description in plain English (and Greek, if you sell locally) is worth more than a long copied one.

Answer the questions customers already ask you by email and phone. Does it come with a European plug? Is it in stock in Nicosia? Can it be gift-wrapped? Put these on the page as a short FAQ block, and you will get fewer of those emails.

Price, stock and delivery: remove the surprises

Shoppers abandon when something unexpected appears late. Show the full price including VAT, say whether the item is in stock, and state delivery cost and time before the cart, not after. A line such as "Free delivery across Cyprus on orders over €50, usually 1 to 2 working days" answers three questions at once.

If you offer cash on delivery, collection from your shop, or courier pickup points, say so on the product page. In Cyprus these options still decide many purchases. Our post on why Cyprus shops lose sales at checkout covers the rest of the journey.

Trust signals next to the button

The space around the "Add to cart" button is prime real estate. Use it for the things that reduce risk: the returns policy in one sentence, a review rating, the payment methods you accept, and a way to ask a question. A WhatsApp link on a product page converts surprisingly well for Cyprus shops, because it matches how people already talk to businesses here.

Reviews matter most on the product itself, not just on the shop. If you have few, ask for them after delivery with a short email. Three honest reviews with customer photos beat a wall of generic five-star ratings.

Help Google understand the page

Product pages can appear in Google with price, stock status and star ratings shown directly in the result. That comes from product structured data, which most shop platforms add automatically but often incompletely. Paste a product URL into Google's Rich Results Test. If price and availability are missing, fix that first. It is the difference between a plain blue link and a result that looks like a listing.

The same data feeds free Google Shopping listings, so one fix improves two channels.

Keep each product on one URL. If the same item exists in three colours, use one page with a colour option rather than three near-identical pages that compete with each other in search.

A quick product page checklist

  • Product name, main photo and full price visible without scrolling
  • At least three photos, one showing scale, all compressed
  • Original description that leads with benefits, specifications in a table
  • Stock status, delivery cost and delivery time on the page
  • Returns policy, payment methods and a contact option next to the button
  • Product reviews, plus structured data that passes the Rich Results Test

Where to start

Do not try to rewrite every product at once. Open your analytics, find the ten products with the most visits and the lowest add-to-cart rate, and fix those pages first using the checklist above.
