Monthly Marketing Numbers: What a Cyprus Owner Should Check
Most Cyprus business owners look at their marketing in one of two ways. Either they never open the numbers, because the dashboards are confusing and the agency "handles it". Or they open everything, get lost in bounce rates and impressions, and close the tab none the wiser. Neither tells you whether last month was good.
There is a middle path. Eight numbers on one page, filled in once a month, compared with last month and with the same month last year. It takes half an hour. After three months, it becomes the most useful page in your business.
Why one page beats five dashboards
Google Analytics, Search Console, your Business Profile, Meta Ads and your booking system each report hundreds of figures. Almost all of them are for the people doing the work, not for the person paying for it. An owner needs to answer three questions: how many people asked to buy, where did they come from, and what did it cost. Everything else is detail.
Writing the numbers down by hand also forces a decision that a live dashboard never does. If a number is on the page, you have decided it matters. If it is not, you have permission to ignore it.
The eight numbers worth writing down
- Enquiries. Form submissions, calls, WhatsApp messages and bookings added together. This is the number everything else explains.
- Where they came from. A rough split: Google search, Google Maps, ads, social, word of mouth. Ask on the form and ask on the phone.
- Google Business Profile actions. Calls, direction requests and website clicks from your profile. For a shop, café or clinic this is often the biggest source of all.
- Google clicks. Total clicks from Search Console, plus the three search terms that brought the most.
- New reviews and current rating. How many reviews arrived this month and what your star rating is today.
- Advertising spend and cost per enquiry. Total spent on Google and Meta, divided by the enquiries those ads produced.
- Website conversion rate. Enquiries divided by visitors. A site with 1,000 visitors and 10 enquiries converts at 1%.
- Returning customers. How many of this month's sales or bookings came from someone who had bought before.
Where each number lives
Enquiries come from your inbox, your phone log and your booking software. If you use a CRM, it adds them up for you, which is one of the strongest reasons to set one up. Google clicks and search terms sit in the Performance report of Search Console. Profile calls and directions are under Performance in your Google Business Profile. Visitors and conversion rate come from Google Analytics 4, provided conversion tracking is actually counting your form and your calls. Ad spend is on the billing page of each ad account. Reviews you can read straight off your profile.
If any of these takes more than five minutes to find, that is a job for whoever built your site: ask them to make it a saved report you can open in one click.
The thirty-minute routine
Pick the first working Monday of each month. Open the page, fill in the eight numbers for the month just finished, and write one line next to each: up, down or flat, and why you think so. "Enquiries down, but we were closed for Kataklysmos" is a perfectly good line. So is "Ads spend doubled, enquiries the same, stop the new campaign".
Then compare with the same month last year, not only with last month. Cyprus is seasonal. A Paphos restaurant that is down 30% from August to October is normal. One that is down 30% from last October has a problem.
What the page tells you after three months
Patterns appear that no single report shows. Enquiries rising while ad spend falls means your Google ranking or your reviews are doing the work. Visitors rising while enquiries stay flat points at the website, and a session recording tool will show you where people give up. Plenty of enquiries but few sales usually means a slow reply, which is why answering fast belongs in the routine too. A falling rating with rising enquiries is a warning that the operation cannot keep up with the marketing.
Three mistakes to avoid
Do not track twenty numbers. If the page takes an hour, you will stop doing it by Christmas. Do not count impressions, followers or "reach" as results; they are activity, not customers. And do not let the agency fill it in for you. Their monthly report can be the source, but the owner should hold the pen, because the point is to understand the business, not to receive a document.
If you would like help setting the page up and connecting the tracking behind it, get in touch. The first month is the hardest. After that it is half an hour you will not want to skip.
